Kiper’s report on UF players

We’ve been told by NFL Draft experts that Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd will be selected in the first round of next week’s draft, maybe even in the top five. And that safety Matt Elam could go late in the first round or definitely in the second round. But how about UF’s other draft eligible players? Here is ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.’s take from a recent teleconference: “Jonathan Bostic I think is a guy you’re going to… Read More »

Muschamp has program in right direction

Coach Will Muschamp’s transformation of the Florida football program from a 7-6 team in his first year to an 11-1 club that finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the BCS standings in a year’s time has been amazing. To wit: Florida, which played the nation’s toughest schedule per the NCAA, was 4-1 against BCS top-12 teams, 4-1 against teams that were ranked at the time of the game and 7-1 against teams which will play in bowl games.… Read More »

Bonner fan to the max

Who would have thought that Matt Bonner, a former UF basketball standout, had these kind of extreme fans? Bonner has always been a productive player in the NBA. Good to see he has fans who admire his play on the court and his success in the classroom while at UF.

Sign of Donovan consistency

The Florida men’s basketball program is a win away from an impressive show of consistency under coach Billy Donovan. The Gators (19-4) would reach the 20-win mark this week with a victory at Kentucky on Tuesday or at home against Tennessee on Saturday for the 14th consecutive season, the longest such streak in the SEC and the fifth-longest in the nation (Kansas 22, Duke and Syracuse (including this season) 15 and Gonzaga 14). Syracuse and coach Jim Boeheim have the… Read More »

Tebow: King of all media

It’s been a great week for Tim Tebow fans, who can’t get enough of the former University of Florida superstar. ESPN can’t go an hour without mentioning the Denver Broncos quarterback this week. And columnists all over the country are writing about him. It’s Tebow Time all the time. Tebow is again gracing the cover of  Sports Illustrated magazine this week, the 12th time (including while at UF), he as been on it. If you missed the Broncos’ win over… Read More »

Florida in running for top back

Florida’s recruiting efforts at running back are getting interesting with the decommitment Sunday of Stone Mountain, Ga., running back Mike Davis. Florida, although a longshot, is in the running for Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook running back Keith Marshall, who will make his college choice public at 2:45 p.m. today. He is down to Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound Marshall, 17, rushed for 1,891 yards and 25 touchdowns this past season. Marshall ran for 1,560 yards and… Read More »

Plenty of opinions on Tebow

When it comes to Tim Tebow’s pro potential, there are sure enough opinions to go around. The take from here is that Tebow can stand some seasoning. His skill set was great for the college game and Urban Meyer’s spread offense at Florida. It takes a different set of skills to be a productive NFL quarterback. So what if Tebow doesn’t start or play much this year? He could use the time to learn the game at that level. There… Read More »

Alabama is predicted to win the SEC Championship by the media for the fourth time since 1992. The previous times (and the actual finish) were:  1993 (lost in SEC Championship Game), 2000 (tied for fifth in West) and 2010 (fourth in West). But it’s not like the guys and gals know any more than fans. The media have accurately predicted the SEC Champion three times since 1992.  In six years, the projected SEC Champion has reached the SEC Championship Game.… Read More »

Last chance to see UF baseball at home

Sunday is your last chance to see Florida’s top-ranked baseball team play at home. If you haven’t been to McKethan Stadium this season, you are missing a treat, as this is a fun team to watch.  The Gators  are a five-tool team: Hit, hit for power, pitch, field and have some speed. And they have quality depth. A general admission ticket ($6) gets you a seat at one of the best college baseball parks in the country.  Parking is also… Read More »
