After nearly 40 years at the University of Florida, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced his retirement, effective Oct. 1, on Monday. The Associated Press first reported his resignation.

“You always want to leave an organization in good shape,” Foley said in a release. “Right now, we obviously have a great group of coaches, we have had a good year and we’ve got things moving in the right direction. I just think that makes it a good time to transition.”

In 25 years as athletics director, Foley built the Gators into a national powerhouse.

Foley will host a press conference to announce his retirement on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Following the announcement of his impending resignation, social media reacted to his departure. This post will be updated throughout the day with more reactions.
