Tebow a top NFL Draft pick?

by Arnold Feliciano

Finally, a television analyst who thinks Tim Tebow will be a high pick in the NFL Draft.

Gary Danielson, who teams with Verne Lundquist on the CBS Sports’ coverage of SEC football on Saturdays, knows a thing or two about the position. Danielson started for the Detroit Lions among others. He played with the Lions when they were relevant (1976 to 1984).

Here’s Danielson’s take, provided by CBS, on several topics of interest:

On SEC quarterbacks: “When I came to this conference there was a lack of quarterbacks. The Big 12 gets a lot of notoriety for their quarterbacks because of their stats. I am going to make a prediction that the three quarterbacks in the SEC, Tim Tebow, Jevon Snead (Ole Miss) and now Ryan Mallett (Arkansas) eventually will be drafted higher than any three quarterbacks now playing in any other conference. Snead may go No. 1 in the draft this year if the team drafting needs a quarterback. He will be the first quarterback taken in the draft and Tebow will go in the first round. Mallet next year, or the year after, will be the first quarterback taken.”

On Tennessee winning in loss to Florida: “I don’t know if I have ever seen a team lose a game and gain more out of it than Tennessee’s program did. Lane Kiffin, in one game, has gained the respect of his players, the fans and the coaches around this conference that he is the guy that will turn Tennessee around. That team was almost down on themselves. They now look at themselves in the mirror and actually see something good. Tennessee was really down on themselves last year and the same goes for Tennessee fans.”

On Urban Meyer gaining the attention of his players: “Urban Meyer got something out of the win that he needed. That team was flying so high, no one was saying anything bad about his team. It was almost as if they were unbeatable. He now has something to sell to his team, that they are not all that everybody has been telling them. So he got a win out of it, but he also got something he can grind his team with. It almost took losing to Mississippi last year before he gained their attention. He gets to gain their attention with a win.”

Tebow will be drafted by the jags and he wiil be the starting qb. The team owner knows how to use a highly marketable product to make money and he knows Tebow will put some butts in those empty seats. Tebow will create so much energy around that program and that is just what they need – that and a new coach! I just hope the team doesn’t move to L.A. That would really suck! Tebow would help them to keep it in Jax.

Tim will be an asset to any team. I agree he would be great in Jacksonville with the Jags. He would fit right in as the starting QB and also will help fill the seats. He will turn the team around giving it the shot in the arm it needs. For now I am going to enjoy the rest of season watching one of the greatest college football players ever and also a truly outstanding young man in every way. What a great representative for U F.

Danny Wuerfull is the best ever Gator. Tebow should play for the Raiders. He is a winner and a god loving freak, just what the silver and black need. Oh did I mention that JaMarcus Russell sucks.

Another ridiculous commnet by Gary Danielson. He and his sidekick Verne Lundquist called the game entirrely for the Vols and against the Gators. Now he is essentially saying that the Gators lost the game. First, if Tebow had not fumbled and we had scored on that drive the score would ahve been 30-6 and Vols go home. AS it was we still won by 10 in a bitter rivalry SEC Eastern Division game. Kiffin didn’t win and neither did the Vols. Meyer didn’t lose anything either. WE went to Kentucky the next week and blew them away. What Danielson and Lundquist seem to forget is how tough the SEC is, and a win is a win by 1 point or 100.

BUT he is right about Tebow. Obviously a very high if not #1 first round draft pick.

Tim will probably go to the Jags. They are in dire need of a QB. The Bucs just draft Josh Friedman from K-State so they wont be taking another QB. Tim will be a QB not a RB, FB or LB. He is special he has the talent, heart and desire that all greats have. LeBron has it. Jordan had it. Mr. Brady has it. Both Mannings have it. He’ll be fine. I have all the faith in the world that Tim will be the 1st Gator QB to be a success in the NFL.

I think if Tebow goes in the first round, it would be to the Jags. You have to remember, teams draft on need for the most part, and first round picks have to be considered “can’t miss picks, and should be starters from day 1, QB being the exception in some cases”. I think Jags take Tebow, let him sit for (up to) 1 year behind Garrard to work on his mechanics (he throws the ball 100 times better than I could, but still not a good delivery, too much like Leftwich, long delivery).

Any other team would probably be willing to risk a 2-3 round pick on Tebow, but not first. Weaver’s pick would be necessitated by the fan base effect more than the on the field production (in the first year at least).

I say all this as a true Gator fan who loves Tebow for the person he is, the competitor he is, and the leader he is. But the NFL is not College Football. Just ask Vince Young and J. Russell.

Man, if the Jags took Tebow he would fill the stadium for every home game and that is what they need, not to mention a top quartterback. Gators from everywhere would flock to Jax to see Tebow play.

I hope Tebow goes to the Jags. He will not only fill the stadium but he will definitely be a great addition to the team. Tebow is a great quarterback but his best asset is his leadership. He has the ability needed, the spirit (which the fans love) and is just a quality person! He loves the game of football and is fearless on the field. He constantly gives all Gators reason to admire and appreciate him.

I am in agreement with most all the above comments. I think Tebow will go in the first round and will be an assist to any team that is lucky enough to get him. I hope it is the Jags because they need a chemisty in that team that is not there now and we know Tebow would supply that need. Give him a good QB coach and turn him loose……….Go Gators

I am sick of “experts” saying Tebow is not an NFL type QB. Tebow is a winner. He is a leader. He’s big, smart, strong, accurate, and fast. Personally, I’d like to see the Rams (my favorite team) get him. He’s exactly what they need. If NFL coaches are smart, they’ll draft him AS a QB and give him a chance… he’s damn sure light-years better than JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, J.P.Losman, and a bunch of other high draft picks.

With the changes we see in professional football, ie. Wildcat formation, we definitely have room for an exiting player like Tim. He can line up as a tight end, Flanker, or quarterback and get the job done with class, and power. He is a class act that Professional football desperately needs right now.

If Jacksonville is smart which ive been saying for years now they better draft Tebow and keep the hometown Hero in FL. Its the only way there gonna fill that stadium and win games at the same time. He’ll be reunited with Reggie Nelson and Derrick Harvey. I jus can’t wait for acouple years to go by so all the people that have talked trash and doubted Tebows skills at the next level will be wrong. Don’t be surprised if he’s Rookie of the year.

I saw a tee shirt last weekend……….Hey, Mr. Weaver…..just bring him home…….I have a bunper sticker on my car……draft Tebow. I need one more sticker…..HIRE MEYER…….

There is no way Tebow is an NFL starter, not unless someone is going to run the spread on Sunday afternoons. Is he going to run that quarterback draw up in the middle in the NFL?

Take a good look now, because this is his last year as a starting quarterback.

All I hear is how Tebow sucks and cant handle the NFL. Have you seen him play? I dont think the NFL is ready for someone with pure talent and plays with alot of heart like him! He is a TRUE football talent! GO GATORS! SEC is the BEST!!!

  23. December 19th, 2009 10:10 am

It’s not about helping Jacksonville fill the stadium. It’s about the best place for Tebow. It takes more than 1 to make a team. Urban Meyer should know that. The best team for Tebow would be the DOLPHINS!!!

WOW, Fla. gets beat by ALA and the coach quits, WHY????? Losing some players maybe???? Tebow may go 2nd 3rd round. Needs to learn a 3,5, step drop. He won’t be playing against Troy & Charleston whoevers
