Tebow weighs in on Gators

You can count Tim Tebow as one of many members of the Gator Nation who isn’t happy with the current state of Florida football. The ESPN analyst and former UF quarterback appeared Tuesday on 1010XL radio in Jacksonville and discussed a few topics, including offensive woes and how the team is playing. Tebow was disappointed in Florida’s showing against Missouri over the weekend. “It was tough to watch. If you’re a Gator fan it was not easy to watch,” he… Read More »

Muschamp must stop coddling Driskel

At SEC Media Days back in July, Florida coach Will Muschamp spoke at length about quarterback Jeff Driskel and his return to the field. Muschamp, as he had done throughout the offseason, praised the way his quarterback dealt with the season-ending injury last year. Muschamp, like Driskel, has also experienced a broken leg. The fourth-year coach also reflected on Driskel’s 2012 success and how they both came to Gainesville together in January 2011. “Jeff and I have been through a… Read More »

Now it’s time UF produces on field

Florida coach Will Muschamp has rebuilt a program that former Gators coach Urban Meyer called broken after his final season in 2010. Muschamp has changed the culture in the locker room by stressing discipline and accountability. A program that once kept Gainesville law enforcement busy during the offseason just had one of the quietest summers in memory entering the start of preseason camp Monday. “It’s a daily, continual education for your players, and I think it goes back to recruiting,… Read More »

What does Shelley Meyer have to complain about? Florida fans

In an interview published Wednesday on an Ohio State fan website, the wife of former University of Florida head coach — and current OSU coach — Urban Meyer talks at length on her feelings about UF and Southeastern Conference fans. SEC fans, Shelley Meyer is quoted as saying, are “just meaner.” Gator fans were quick to turn on her husband, even after two national championships, she says. “But, here is my perception (about Florida fans): I think they feel like… Read More »

More from former Gators on Roper, Muschamp

A handful of former Gators spoke with The Sun this week about new coordinator Kurt Roper and how his system will help Florida’s offense, its players and ultimately head coach Will Muschamp. To read the story, click here. Here are some leftover comments from those interviews: Former WR Chris Doering “I think fans got spoiled from what we were able to do there in the mid-90s offensively. It’s not enough just to win. At Florida, for whatever reason, you have… Read More »

Perspective on Leak replacing Phillips

Florida lost a valuable asset to its staff Wednesday when wide receivers coach Joker Phillips resigned from his post. The 26-year coaching veteran was a huge hire for Will Muschamp in late 2012 after two of the last three WR coaches had a combined experience of just seven years. Phillips helped Trey Burton, Quinton Dunbar and Solomon Patton have career-highs in catches and receiving yards last season, even with the injuries and struggles UF had offensively. But one of the… Read More »

Muschamp discusses Michael Sam

Florida coach Will Muschamp was asked at his speaking event Tuesday about former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be selected in the NFL draft. Muschamp said Sam would have been welcomed at UF, and he recently spoke to his team about him. “Anyone’s sexual preference is their business,” Muschamp said. “It’s not our business to judge them. Until you lead a perfect life, don’t be judging others.” “Good answer,” one fan said as the… Read More »

UF, home of champions

Last century, the University of Florida athletic program produced 16 national championships. The Gators have equaled that total in the past 14 years, starting with men’s golf in 2001. UF has won national championships five straight athletic seasons, with multiple national titles in each year: men’s track and field and women’s swimming and diving in 2010; men’s indoor track and field and women’s tennis in 2011; men’s indoor and outdoor track and field and women’s tennis in 2012 and gymnastics… Read More »
